We at Meshugge love to travel, meet like-minded people and of course find the hidden treasures in each city for you. While our main focus is always on fashion, the lists can also include restaurants and cafes, art galleries or even a cute park to relax. We hope you enjoy reading our articles and find something useful for your next trip.
This time we were in Athens and fell in love with the neighbourhood Exarchia, which lays between the posh Kolonaki and Mount Lycabettus. It is close to the University of Athens and considered the home of the youth.
With all the graffiti, art work and banners it does feel like an anarchist outpost in the city, and indeed if you read about a political dispute and protests you can be sure it was in Exarchia. But don’t worry the neighbourhood is edgy and a bit meshugge but in all means safe. There are plenty of cafes, bookshops, authentic restaurants and second hand stores. We put a little list together of 5 spots you can’t miss when you go to Exarchia; enjoy!
1. Bohbo - Designer Second Hand Store
Ippokratous 40, Athens, Greece
We always love a good second Hand store and but its so hard to find one with a wide selection of brands, where the pieces are in good condition and presented in an organised and charming way.
The store is pretty minimalist with a little courtyard and when you take the stairs up to the second floor you are not sure anymore if you entered someone's apartment or not. The store feels more like an alternative luxury boutique with the interior, the decoration and how everything is beautifully organised on the racks. They have both Womens and Mens fashion and they offer everything from clothes to leather accessories and shoes. Bohbo is absolutely top-notch and a must for someone who is looking for a high-end piece.
- Every Day a Story - Barbershop and Hairdresser
Zoodochou Pigis 33 & Metaxa A. 1, Athens, Greece
Gentlemen if you need your beard trimmed and a nice hair cut stop by at Every Day A Story. It's not just the fact that the guys do an excellent job but also the studio itself is worth checking out. It features a red chesterfield couch, beautiful wooden chairs with leather padding and even an old Vespa found its way in.
- Cafe Paraskinio
Kallidromiou 68, Athens 114 73, Greece
Mornings are sleepy in Exarchia, but there’s no shortage of places to have a coffee, a bite to eat and watch the first few hours unfold. Cafe Paraskinio on Kallidromiou, a small spot with marble floors, delicious croissants and good coffee, is a good place to start and offers copious people-watching opportunities.
- Ama Lachei
Kallidromiou 69, Athina 106 83, Greece
With its beautiful Garden along with the delicious meze and local wines, one can easily spend an entire afternoon here. The chill atmosphere and very affordable prices makes it a great place to try traditional greek cuisine with a twist along with the locals. Don't be surprised if you end up coming here a few times during your time in the city.
Valtetsiou 21, Athina 106 80, Greece
Fantastic wine bar with a great selection of wines which you can try by the glass or bottle.
Very fun vibe with a food menu and also great cocktails. Amazing mix of people and the place to spend an evening in Exarchia.
